Newton Township currently employs two full-time and one part-time employee to handle road maintenance in the unincorporated area of the township.
Key services provided by our Road Department include:
- Ice and snow removal and salting
- Repair and patch of roads
- Cleaning roadside ditches
- Checking elevations for ditch pipe installations
- Clearing roadways of debris
- Maintaining township equipment and buildings in good repair
- Mowing and trimming along township roads
- Mowing and trimming cemeteries
- Open/Close of burials
- Headstone foundations
Mike Hall has been employed by Newton Township since 2003 and serves as the Road Superintendent. He oversees all Road Department activities, maintains departmental records, and assigns duties as necessary on a daily basis. Mr. Hall reports to the Newton Township Board of Trustees and works closely with them to assure that all work performed is on a schedule which is in the best interest of the residents of Newton Township. In addition to his supervision of the Road Department, Mr. Hall also serves as the township's Cemetery Sexton.
Dan Smith has served the township since 2007 and is a full-time employee. He works alongside Mr. Hall to complete necessary road maintenance and repairs and to keep the roads cleared and salted during the winter months. Mr. Smith also works beside Mr. Hall and part-time/seasonal employees as needed to perform burials and maintain township cemeteries.
Additional employees are part of our work force on a seasonal or part-time basis for proper maintenance of cemeteries and assistance with road and machinery repairs.
Newton Township is responsible for the maintenance of 34.881 miles of roads throughout the unincorporated area of the township.
